Local Buying Foundation Qld
Welcome to our Local Buying Foundation (LBF) Qld eNews. As we start to make tracks into the new financial year, it has been terrific to look back over the past quarter and reflect on the number of events and initiatives that the Foundation supported, all which align with the priorities of building sustainable business futures and business communities across the Central Highlands, Isaac and Mackay regions.

The continued success of the Local Buying Program, has enabled the LBF to support 107 projects with a total value of $2,758,787 injected back into local business communities.

A new look and feel to the previous Local Buying Foundation website is now available and I encourage you to take a look at the new features.

The next funding round is quickly approaching, and the Local Buying Foundation Advisory Committee is looking forward to seeing the upcoming applications and the outcomes from supported events and projects this year.

HIGHLIGHTS - April - June 2019

The Local Buying Foundation Queensland has supported a number of initiatives, projects and events during the second quarter of 2019. The success of the Foundation is a direct result of strong use of the Local Buying Program across all BMA and BMC operations.

During Small Business Week (27 May-1 June 2019), over 16 activities across the Isaac region benefited from LBF funding, which contributed towards local small businesses gaining access to industry experts, guest speakers, workshops, training events and a Clermont Futures Forum. Well done to the collaboration efforts made by GW3, Isaac Regional Council and Moranbah Traders Association on the successful delivery of these events.

INNOVATION & TECHNOLOGY
Learn more on how the Local Buying Foundation is increasing connections, supporting innovation and engaging with the Central Highlands, Isaac and Mackay business communities
The AgFrontier Regional Agtech Incubator provides startups the opportunity to work and grow in a dedicated program designed specifically for rural businesses and individuals in regional Queensland and northern NSW who have practical understanding of agriculture.
This is a collaborative initiative led by Regional Development Australia Mackay-Isaac-Whitsunday and includes a large number of not-for-profit and government organisations who play a role in assisting local businesses.

The initiative is funded by the Local Buying Foundation and is a central location for the region’s business events. It creates strong linkages between local businesses, provides a resource of ‘what’s on’ for the business community and allows businesses to discover organisations that can support their business’ growth.
CQ Job Link is a one-stop shop for all employment-related information for our region. It's designed to help regional businesses locate, attract and retain workers, and help individuals find and apply for suitable and meaningful employment quickly and easily.

The Central Highlands Development Corporation (CHDC) and Isaac Regional Council (IRC), with the support of the Local Buying Foundation, have launched this free online platform to connect employers and jobseekers in the Bowen Basin region.
CHDC hosts AgTeCH: Build it, Use it, Profit, a major biennial innovation and technology event for the Australian agricultural community. AgTeCH19 will be held in Emerald on 6 November 2019.

The event brings together the smartest minds at the intersection of agriculture, machinery and technology to explore the future of agribusiness and showcase the latest innovations to improve farm and business profitability.

We are pleased to be the Platinum sponsor for this event.
Our region is home to fabulous producers of table grapes, citrus, beef, grains and legumes, figs, garlic, potatoes and much, much more. Grown in the Central Highlands is your one stop shop to satisfy your hunger for authentic, seasonally-available food and fibre products, and for our farmers to showcase their quality produce.

This is a free resource provided for Central Highlands producers, consumers and retailers.
Drones for Schools 2019

This project follows on from the success of the Aviation for Schools - Drones pilot project funded by the Local Buying Foundation, UAVAIR and VETis during 2018 with the Central Highlands VET Cluster Network.

50 from 52 enrolled high schools students from the Bowen Basin successfully completed a Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Line of Sight) with a number of students completing the CASA commercial license to operate drone technologies.

Marist College in Emerald is the lead contact for the program this year and we look forward to supporting the future workforce skills needs for businesses in our regions.

Funding Rounds - QLD - 2019
The Local Buying Foundation (LBF) in Queensland has two funding methods available for supporting projects and initiatives. These include:
  1. Funds allocated via a competitive funding round through completing an LBF Funding Application form. Funding will be allocated on the basis of alignment with the Foundation’s objectives and an assessment against the Foundation’s funding criteria.
  2. Funds allocated based on the identification of strategic projects and programs aligned to the priority areas of the Foundation by the Local Buying Foundation Advisory Committee (LBFAC). These may be competitive or non-competitive, depending on whether the LBFAC decides to grant an exemption for organisations that are a clear logical choice to deliver a particular program.
      • ROUND THREE - Closes Friday, 30 August 2019
      • ROUND FOUR - Closes Friday, 29 November 2019
The Local Buying Foundation is a critical element of the Local Buying Program
delivered across all BMA and BMC operations in partnership with C-Res.
