The LBF has supported a number of events and initiatives this quarter, which align with the priorities of building sustainable business futures and business communities across the Singleton, Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter regions.

The continued success of the Local Buying Program has enabled the LBF to support 12 projects with a total value of $117,616 injected back into local business communities.

The Local Buying Foundation Advisory Committee is looking forward to seeing the outcomes from supported events and projects this year, including The Business Centre’s Business Development Masterclass Series which will be delivered to the Upper Hunter in coming weeks.

HIGHLIGHTS - July to September 2019

The Local Buying Foundation New South Wales has supported a number of initiatives, projects and events since inception. The success of the Foundation is a direct result of strong use of the Local Buying Program across BHP assets in New South Wales. Take a look below and see some of the highlights from this year so far.

Building Connected Business Communities
The Building Connected Business Communities project is an initiative of the Singleton Business Chamber whereby the Foundation has provided over $35,000 towards the building of local business capabilities across the Singleton shire. Watch the video below to hear from Darlene Flockhart, Business Development Administration Officer from Singleton Business Chamber.
Scone Trade Show
Scone Home Timber & Hardware hosted the annual Trade Expo on September 12, with local builders, tradies and small businesses from throughout the region taking the opportunity to network, meet suppliers and share knowledge.

More than 25 industry suppliers were showing their wares as part of the expo with businesses and tradies – many of whom were Local Buying Program Suppliers – learning about the latest in developments and knowledge around industry goods and services.

The Local Buying Foundation in New South Wales proudly sponsored the annual event, recognising the alignment with the Foundation’s core objective of building sustainable business futures.
Singleton Community Training Kitchen
BHP's Local Buying Foundation has recently partnered with Singleton Busines Chamber, Singleton Shire Council and Singleton High School (SHS) with funding to assist with the vital development of the Singleton Community Training Kitchen.

The $15,000 will allow Vocational Education and Training (VET) Hospitality students at SHS to complete their required practical hours to complete their course.
Sue Gilroy (Singleton Business Chamber), Tracey Holloway (Singleton High School), Jo Scott (Singleton High School), Deirdra Tindale (BHP Local Buying Foundation), Tony Chadwick (Singleton Shire Council) and Catherine Scott (Singleton Shire Council)

NSW Funding Rounds - 2019
The Local Buying Foundation (LBF) in New South Wales has two funding methods available for supporting projects and initiatives. These include:
  1. Funds allocated via a competitive funding round through completing an LBF Funding Application form. Funding will be allocated on the basis of alignment with the Foundation’s objectives and an assessment against the Foundation’s funding criteria.
  2. Funds allocated based on the identification of strategic projects and programs aligned to the priority areas of the foundation by the Local Buying Foundation Advisory Committee (LBFAC). These may be competitive or non-competitive, depending on whether the LBFAC decides to grant an exemption for organisations that are a clear logical choice to deliver a particular program.
ROUND FOUR - Closes Friday October 25, 2019
The Local Buying Foundation is a critical element of the Local Buying Program
delivered across all BHP operations in partnership with C-Res.
